March 3-6, 2011
And then, the plot thickens . . .
The ninth annual Tcha Tee Man Wi Storytelling Festival, March 3-6, promises another weekend of both traditional and unique entertainment for adults, plus a matinee for children.
This year's community celebration of the ancient art features the imagination, energy and talents of master storyteller and mime, Antonio Rocha, whose Brazilian background spices his performances. Also, from the Pacific Northwest, Alton Takiyama-Chung brings a zesty style flavored by his Hawaiian, Japanese, and Korean heritage.
Throughout the weekend, there will be evening performances, morning and afternoon Workshops to help people hone their storytelling skills, a children's matinee, and an open mic for both new and experienced storytellers.
All are welcome to the free performances. Fees are charged for the workshops.
Local storytellers, opening for the headliners, include Martha Foster, Louise Johnson, and Theran, of the Next Generation Teller group.
Tcha Tee Man Wi (cha tea mahn wee) means "Place Where Spirit Dwells" and is the original name of what we now call Marys Peak. The Tcha Tee Man Wi Storytelling Festival is presented annually by The Arts Center, the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, Corvallis Parks and Recreation, Wonderkeepers: A Storytelling Guild, and community volunteers, with generous sponsorship by local businesses and individuals.
For more information, the full schedule, and to become a sponsor or volunteer, visit www.tchateemanwistorytelling.com/ or call the Library at 541-766-6794.
The Tcha Tee Man Wi Storytelling Festival also has a dynamic page on Facebook.
